Never give a child your old cell phone, even if you think the battery is dead. Any cell phone will still dial 9-1-1 without an active service plan. There are thousands of these types of accidental calls every day to 9-1-1 centers throughout the country. They are taking up precious seconds you may need if you have an emergency! Please donate old phones to a charity of your choice.
If you or your child accidentally dials 9-1-1 on your cell phone, do not hang up.
Remain on the line and give the telecommunicator the information they require.
