1980
The first Enhanced 9-1-1 service begins. This service provides the 9-1-1 telecommunicator ANI and ALI (phone number, name and address) information for landline 9-1-1 calls.
1998
The first Phase I Cellular 9-1-1 system (in which a cellular 9-1-1 call displays the caller’s phone number and the address of the receiving antenna tower) begins in the United States in Allen County, Indiana.
2001
The first Phase II Cellular 9-1-1 system (in which a cellular 9-1-1 call displays the caller’s phone number, the address of receiving antenna tower and the approximate GPS location, if available) begins in the United States in St. Clair County, Illinois.
